Our commitment to sustainability
At Chintz and Wood, we believe in making a difference through sustainable practices. We breathe new life into old textiles by reusing and dyeing them with natural colors. Our cushion pads are ethically sourced, and we love materials that have had a previous life. Each piece we create aims to minimize waste and bring a unique touch to your home.
Our materials
Fabrics: Our goal is to make our home textiles as sustainable as possible. The fabric for our home textiles is primarily from vintage textiles, or from deadstock fabrics. (Fabrics that are left over by manufacturers from other projects, or rejected because of flaws, and then get used by small companies like ours rather than being thrown away). We adopt materials that have had a previous life. That way we can adopt and reuse them. We love vintage french linen and old Sanderson fabrics.
Wood: We use local timber from Sussex and Devon, carefully selected for sustainability. The wood is from trees that are felled because they are damaged or uses the left overs from bigger projects.
Cushion Pads: Our cushion pads are made in East Sussex using feather and down filling. “European feather and down is ethically sourced and fully traceable right back to the farm, to ensure the humane treatment of birds, protection of human rights and environmental impact throughout procurement with the whole process being audited and certified by IDFL and approved by IDFB standards.” But we can also provide pads made from British Wool, or eco fibre filling made from post consumer PET plastic bottles.
Natural Dyes: We use natural dyes derived from plants to bring a new life to fabrics by over dyeing them. The variations of rose madder and yellow weld, or golden pomegranate make the fabrics glow.
Packaging: We use FSC certified packaging, and recycled packaging where possible,
